Barely fully recovered from the Saddleback half marathon last weekend, Val saddled up to do another race, this time a 5K, (3.1 miles).

Under similar ideal conditions as last weekend, we drove to Corona del Mar for the 26th annual Corona del Mark Scenic 5K and Walk

This is a great little local race. It is very well organized and the course runs through local neighborhoods and finishes with a great Pacific Ocean View. Afterwards, some of the local restaurants had free breakfast for the participants. (Since Val was holding out for her customary weekend bagel, I got the good stuff)!

They broke the race into several events so that the men ran their own race and later, at 8:20 am, the women ran theirs.

It is a scenic course as the name says with runniers racing through neighborhoods with beautiful homes with panoramic harbor and ocean views.

Since it is a smaller race, Val was able to get to the front and make it to the second row at the start line. The course provided some challenges in the form of some hills, which did not seem to be a big problem. At least it wasn’t for non-runners like me!

Val crossed the finish line looking strong in a time of 22:06, which placed her at 28th overall for the women and 7th in her age division. As it turned out the top three finishers were also in the same division which speaks to the strength and speed of female runners past the age of 40.
