The miserable high humidity in the gym this morning belied what a beautiful day it turned out to be once I left that sweat box. After that workout, Val and I went to visit Gym Teleos which is the Crossfit Costa Mesa affiliate down the street from us at the invitation of owners Alec and Steve. Not only was there a tour and the unannounced WOD, there was a catered backyard barbecue with plenty of protein.
Before the WOD, everyone did Bottom to Bottom Tabata Squats, the most brutal kind. Since I was sufficiently worked, I enjoyed watching and I do recall the burn vividly from my last time.
After a bit of rest and banter from this very friendly group, Steve and Alec set up for the infamous “Fight Gone Bad”, a Crossfit staple. Here is an explanation from Crossfit’s FAQ:
In this workout you move from each of five stations after a minute. This is a five-minute round from which a one-minute break is allowed before repeating. We’ve used this in 3 and 5 round versions. The stations are:
The clock does not reset or stop between exercises. On call of “rotate,” the athlete/s must move to next station immediately for good score. One point is given for each rep, except on the rower where each calorie is one point.
Val decided to lead off with the event she liked least. You see here below on the Concept 2 rower. She said detested rowing, but after this FGB, she said the Sumo Deadlift High Pull (SDHP) became her new least favorite. This like all the WODs is highly scalable which really doesn’t make it any easier, just manageable. Val logged a nice score of 293.
We wish Gym Teleos all the best and much success and will keep an eye on their growth in our neighborhood. Oh, yeah, thanks for the “eats”. Great stuff!

1You Kool-Aid drinker! Hahahahahahaha…….
By the way, did you watch the flyweight women Olympic lifters this morning. F-ing ridiculous. One of my new goals is to lift as much as women who weigh 70 pounds less than me (even if they are Olympic champs).
Chen Xiexia
Gold Medal winner, women’s 48kg(105.6lbs)
Snatch - 95 kg (209.5 pounds)
C&J - 117 kg (258 pounds)
GOD DAMN!!!!!!!!

2Kool-Aid drinker? That would be Val. I had gone to the gym earlier and tried to imagine lifting Chen’s numbers. That is ridiculous.
