Today was a day of rest from working out so instead, I decided, along with Brent to watch other people work out. This was the weekend for the Fitness Expo in Pasadena. It was here that I met Ori Hofmekler of Warrior Diet fame giving a talk on the hazards of estrogen in the diet. The very next day, I started Ori’s Warrior Diet and went on to drop 33 lbs of excess weight. Ori was there again this year and noticed the change in my body including the increase in muscle mass. That was nice to hear. Brent and I heard him speak and then went on to check out the exhibits and watched some of the push-up competition. The winner today got $500 for 85 push-ups in a minute. Guaranteed Brent and I would have been duking it out for the prize money. We were not impressed with what we saw. If anything, the most impressive was a tiny Asian girl who cranked out 63, but was not eligible since this was promoted as a men’s event. I’m coming back next year for that. (Don’t tell any other Crossfitters!)
The show itself was great for people watching. It was a dichotomy of chiseled and augmented bodies on the one side and the typical, fat and out of shape on the other. Hopefully, some of those were there to change those bodies. The exhibits for the most part were supplement companies, which is what you would expect at such an event. We missed the MMA stuff and the strongman competition but our highlight was the APF Scot Mendelson Bench Press Classic. This was great stuff. We didn’t see anyone actually complete a lift, but all the attempts were over 800 lbs. The star of the show, Scot Mendelson also provided the best entertainment, (aside from the guy who had blood all over his face after his attempt from blowing out some blood vessels. Now that was cool! Brent wondered if the guy popped an eyeball out!!)

Now take a look at the videos. THIS is how to get stoked to do a max bench press. First you snort a couple of ammonia hits then…

Here is how the lift went…

Scot is a stud! That is some freaky weight to bench press, even with a bench press shirt and a wide grip. Brent proclaimed the Fit Expo "Good Times" and I have to agree. After going to a few runners expos of late, it was a nice change of pace (pun intended) to see slabs of muscles and T & A instead of skinny stick-like, kashi-eating, carbo-loading anemic runners with bad knees and no muscle tone. (Val, I exclude you. I know for a fact you don’t eat kashi!)

Next year, we are taking that push-up money under a Crossfit banner, dammit!
