At my gym there are four guys who train for strongman events and one of them, Scott Brengel is nationally ranked in the lightweight division. To say training next to Scott, Ralphie, Pete and Tom is a bit daunting is putting it mildly. these guys lift heavy…really heavy! But I go about my business, give them their due props and ask a few questions. Their answers have always been helpful. Between my sets, I carefully watch what they do and Scott is great about keeping everyone on point with their technique and dispensing advise. He recently recommended the book “Supertraining” which I just started reading.

All four have different body types and personalities so it is interesting to see how each tackles the lift in front of him One of the guys, with whom I have only had email correspondence expressed his willingness to train me for the Highland Games should I want to do that. These guys are all part of The Freak Factory. Visit the site. There are a lot of photos and videos of these Freaks in action.

Tonight I did train next to them and I was entertained and impressed between my own sets of shoulder work from a recent Crossfit WOD.

Military Press, 5×1: 135/155/165/175/185*/*ties a personal best. Required some coaching and coaxing from Scott.

Push Press, 5×1: 155/170/180/ then I realized I am supposed to be doing 5×3: 155/165/170/160/155/.

Push Jerks, 5×5: 105/115/135/145/120/. I really sucked at these. I need a lot more work on form.
