There was a time were this would be a no-brainer. a 5K? No problem. A walk in the park. Those days are long gone, but I am in "training" for this race and to that end, I am going out for one or two 5K training runs a week in the month of June in preparation.
Years ago, I ran all sorts of races including a few marathons, half marathons, 5 & 10 milers and some 10Ks and loved it. All that racing took it’s toll on my lower back so now, mostly of the time when I run, that area flares up again in pain, rendering the run anything but enjoyable.
Yeah, yeah, ok, no whining. I did go for a run this evening, about 3 miles with a 9:22 pace. I had some good music on the iPod, especially to help me up the longest hill.
So, we’ll see how this goes. I’ll find a way to make it fun. After all, it is on the beach, it is in Huntington Beach and it will be the 4th of July. Oh, and I can finish in under 30 minutes! It will be fun!
