This weekend, Brent, Christy, Ray and I, all of Crossfit Marina in Huntington Beach each did our first Crossfit Training Certification at the Orange County Fire Authority in Irvine. This is the first of three levels of training that can lead to training others in Crossfit protocols in the same manner as we are trained. This first level focuses on the core tenets and exercises Coach Glassman and others have developed and have become enormoously popular with military, law enforcement, police and reformed gym rats and others looking for a better way to train. I have come away from this having learned a lot, especially the understanding that I am at the beginning of a learning curve that will take a lifetime. There are so many things to learn, to do, to improve on that it is almost puzzling where to begin. Of course the answer is, right where I am right now. As to skills, the kipping pull-up is a biggie for me as are doing the Olympic lifts, the Snatch, Clean and Jerk and the progression moves that help develop those lifts. To that end, we enjoyed the training Sunday morning Of Olympic weightlifting Coach, Mike Burgener and did other workouts with med balls to simulate the lifts with the bar. The snatch and cleans are incredibly difficult lifts to learn, but they are beautiful lifts when performed with some skills, which takes years.

This event was very well organized and I found it to be very organized, professional, informative and fun. The trainers, and there were many were very helpful, especially when we went hands on. Coach Glassman and Nicole work very well together and seemed choreographed. Nicole seemed to anticipate Coach’s words and actions. It came across as very polished. Coaches use of stories and metaphors as well as wellplaced f- bombs all were german to the point he was making. There were no extraneous ramblings and straying off topic. I found Coach Glassman to be an excellent communicator; one of the best I have ever heard.

I am looking forward to begin implementing what I have learned and been exposed to. I also look forward to developing relationships with some of the people I have met this weekend.

As Brent would say, "Good Times"!
