Focus…concentration…determination…singleness of purpose…will…strength. Am I leaving anything out? These are things that you need to bring to the gym with you when you lift, especially the deadlift.

I came to the gym tonight to do a 5 x 3 deadlift session, but unfortunately had none of the aforementioned qualities, but managed to get away, no worse for the wear. The warm-up consisted of 3 rounds of the Burgener reps followed by a 5 x 3 of high hang snatches + overhead squats. 45/65/75/85/55.

Not off to a good start at all. Technique? AWOL. (Technique should have been on the list). Ok, time to deadlift. The best I can say is that at least I was warmed up to lift heavy.

Five sets three reps, ready or not. 225/275/315/365 pr/315. On the 365, my knees came up before the hips but I got it locked out anyway.

It was ugly, like a pro football game that ends with a 3-0 score in the rain, but I got it done and had a little fun.
