It was a quiet day at the gym as is usually the case on a Sunday afternoon and the ideal day to do deadlift singles, or at least it started out that way…
I started out doing 3 leisurely warm-up rounds, the CFWU, and chatted with a few gym friends. I continued more specific warm-ups by doing 2 rounds of 155×5 deadlifts and then loaded the bar to get started. I had my most recent max workout for this lift with me so I wanted to bump the weights just a tad over that of a month ago, when I got my PR of 375. Perhaps I went too heavy too soon because when I got to 365, on just the 4th lift, things in my lower back "popped" and I dropped the bar. I think I knew immediately what gave away and that was the lordotic curve in my lower back. I don’t think I had one. Anyway, that took all the interest out of going heavy. I backed off, did some stretches, sit-ups, back extensions to stay loose and test the extent of the damage. I guess I will know more tomorrow. In the meantime, ice packs and Motrin.
I did, however finish the workout..cautiously. I dropped the weight by 120 lbs and did some more sets before I left and felt alright.
It worked out like this: 245/295/345/365f/245×5/245×5/265×3/265×3/.
As bad as that dumped deadlift of mine was, it was not nearly as bad as this one, (although it appears he did not get injured at least).

1Wow, that has to be the ugliest deadlift I have ever seen (maybe not ever done). That video was a good reminder of the need to keep the lordotic arch, and not lift when I cannot keep it.
That looked like it had the potential to do some real damage.
As for the tabata sprints, I am game. I anticipate it will be one of those rougher “good times.”

2Sorry, Brent. They are definitely not Good Times. When you do them, you’ll know what I mean. Come on though, I’ll time you!.
