This becoming one of my favorite Crossfit workouts. It can be done at a "leisurely" pace although there is nothing remotely leisurely about the workout itself. Far from it, especially today for me. Once I saw Steve’s numbers, I knew they were out of reach. Then I talked to Brent and he broke 800 for the first time. I expressed some doubt whether I was ready to lift an additional 40# from my previous CFT as I remembered how tough that was. Brent told me that I just might be surprised and he was right. I knew I could PR my shoulder press as I recently lifted 155# in a set of 5 reps and that was just 5# lighter than my previous 1RM. So there was a "gimme". The deadlift and especially the back squat was a concern. so how did I handle it? I got anxious and nervous prior to going to the gym. How ridiculous! I had an energy drink and that just made me nauseous. Great! Anxious and ready to puke! I warmed up slowly hoping this would pass and it did not. So, i just started lifting and before long, both inconveniences passed.
First, the Deadlift: 225/275/305/325/355/365f/360 w/straps; doesn’t count/360f/. Done! New PR at 355#. Off to a good start.
Next, the Back Squat: 155/185/245/265/275/285/300f/. Cool! Three consecutive PR’s. All lifts below parallel though not ass to ankles. We’re having some fun now going into my best lift!
Shoulder Press: 115/135/155/175/185/. Val showed up in time to watch the very last lift at 185. It had drama! The lift went up slow but steady and I maintained "legal" form throughout but I did check myself getting ready to push press it up.
I finished with a CFT of 825, which bests my previous 760 lbs by 8.5%. Thanks Steve and Brent for the inspiration and push and to Val for showing up at my last PR. That was fun!
Now, I think a nap is in order followed by a lot of food, or vice versa!

1Damn!!! All your lifts had PRs, and the squat and press had multiple PRs. And then the 360 lbs deadlift with straps just tells me you had one too many warm-ups and one too many surprises as to how much you could lift. It seems like you likely had 365 and possibly 370 in you if you had done two warm ups and then gone for it.
What is most impressive to me, however, is your shoulder press of 185. That’s ridiculous. The top posters on HQ are only getting 200 or so, I think. That is a great effort.

2Brent,
I honestly cannot explain the press in relation to the problems I have had with my shoulders through the years. recently, when doing presses, 5 rep sets, I did 155 and I had to check the bar and recalculate to make sure I had the amount on the bar I thought I had because it wasn’t long before that my 1RM was 160. I knew going into today I had a 175 in me but 185 was to show off for Val and it was the toughest press I have done to date. It took a long time to get it up there and my body stayed still; no wrestling it up. I am most proud of that effort and the form, but for the life of me, I can’t explain why that lift works for me better than the other two or why I suck at 95# Thrusters. I’m beginning to think I need to have you or Steve see me make that lift..it still is a head scratcher, but I’m not complainin’ I need a LOT of work on squats. I still don’t fully trust my adductors and I’m afraid of blowing them out again.
my shoulders over the last month have felt better than they have in years , ..
Thanks for the props.
