What I thought was a nasty cold preceded by a fever was actually a nasty allergy attack. After the first day, my symptoms differed from Val’s (my nappy headed blonde). When I went out for a skate last night, I realized I was getting blown away by the wind. You see, for some reason, my allergies usually hit me a day or two before the winds blow, usually, but not always, the Santa Anas. (Can anyone tell me why that is?)

I felt pretty good today so I went to the gym and thought I could get in a fairly robust workout in and it was close to that. My strength and stamina weren’t up to as much as thought I could do, but it was fine and good to be back in the gym.

I started off doing a push-up routine from BodyweightCulture.com. 2 sets of maximum numbers of push-ups. The first two sets were decline, followed by standard, and finished with inclines. There was a 90 second rest between each set. The number of reps across the board was less than what I wanted, but it still counts. The sets/reps were: 35/25-20/20-20/20.

That was followed by back squats, 8 sets x 3 reps. I did not go as heavy but it was a good opportunity to get deeper in the squat and keep good form and still get a good lifting session out of it. The stats were: 185/205/225/205/205/205/185/185/. Several warm-up sets with lighter weight preceded these.

They all can’t be great workouts and this one wasn’t. Today, the highlight was talking to trainer/MMA fighter Kenny Smith and Christine about their pleasure of being referred by me over to Ross Enamait’s site where they bought two of his books and a weighted vest, the X Vest, which he ordered after seeing me train with one a couple of weeks ago. Those are two fine people. Kenny loves to get me going on the news of the day when we have the time to gab and today the topic was Don Imus and "nappy headed hos". I also got word from a veteran Highland Games competitor, Kevin the "Freakmaster" that he is interested in training me and anyone else who wants in and learn how to prepare for compete in the upcoming Highland Games in Pomona. More on that later.
