World’s Longest Inline Skate

My friend, Glenn Koshi of Bont now sells a 6 wheel inline skate model. I currently skate in 5 wheel Bonts and over the last several years, many have favored the shorter 4 wheel arrangement.

While frame length and number of wheels each frame holds increase or decrease, boots and frames get lighter and wheel sizes keep getting bigger.

When I first started, wheels were 72 mm and quickly went to 76 mm. I was an early adopter to the 80’s and loved them. I currently use a 5 x 88 mm configuration. I have also tried a 4 x 100 kit and they were good, but I still favor my current components.

This new 6 wheel, 110 mm is gigantic! I may have to check them out!

Thanks to another friend, Toby Taylor for letting me know about these.

Skating Into the Sunset

Huntington Beach PierSunset in Huntington Beach

For the first time this year, I laced up the Bonts and headed for the beach to get in a late afternoon skate from the Newport Beach Pier to the Huntington Beach Pier and finishing at the Newport Beach City Hall.

While it took a couple of miles to get accustomed to the wheels under my feet, it only took about that long to get invigorated over the sunset skate at the beach.

From the perspective of a training session, it was all aerobic. No watch or heart rate monitor was worn though. Best guess on the time was about 55 minutes, covering 12 miles.

This was a nice change-up from weights and kettlebells and I look forward to the next roll.

SART Sk8

img_2540.JPG

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and I wanted to skate flat today and the Santa Ana River Trail was the perfect choice.

I started out from home and headed to Back Bay and went under the Jamboree bridge to the SART. This is a great trail that goes on for many miles and is one of the best places to skate long in Orange County. Today, I did a 60 minute skate out and back to the metal bridge near the hockey rink. The distance was 12.75 miles which of course, is the same as my mph. I started off easy to to work and loosen the adductors and I had no pain on the left side. Today, the right side gave me some problems, so I started off easier and the first 15 minutes were warm-up. No big bursts of speed today as this was completely aerobic and I was giving movement to assist the adductors in healing, While the addie was noticed throughout, it was a good workout and an enjoyable skate.
