Smile, Durk!

This weekend I had the good fortune to rendezvous with some very interesting movers and shakers of varied and diverse fields and much to my surprise and sitting at my table was world-renown life extension and life enhancement scientist and visionary, Durk Pearson. You may recall Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw and their seminal 1982 book, “Life Extension: A Practical Scientific Approach“, which dicussed the six causes of aging and how to slow down five of them.

Wisconsin native, Bill Kazmaier says “aging is tough”. At only a year older than me, Bill laments the downsizing of trucks he is able to pull. He says with obvious disdain that the days of pulling a Mack truck loaded with 40,000 lbs of coal are gone forever and has had to lower his sights on small dump trucks or tractors.

Kazmaier writes of his personal angst of aging and reminisces in a humorous article in “The Onion”,

“As An Older World’s Strongest Man, There Are Certain Trucks I Can’t Pull Anymore”.

Are You Too Old For This?

Now that I have been powerlifting and learning the Olympic lifts and their progressions for just over a year, there are concessions, sadly that must be made to age. So, am I too old for this? Are you?

This article by Brooks Kubik, of Dinosaur Training addresses the topic. I do wish I would have started smarter weightlifting when I was a younger lad.
