Resistance Band Training and the Green Bay Packers

Chances are you are already using resistance bands in your training at least for stretching or injury rehabbing. Powerlifters and others use bands to add serious resistance to their big lifts; the squat, deadlift and bench press. Louie Simmons of Westside Barbell is a huge proponent of bands and chains for Dynamic Effort and Maximum Effort training. My strength and conditioning coach incorporates bands for a variety of lifts and the benefits are substantial. Begin using them and you will see how resistance bands can make a big impact in your athletic training.

The Green Bay Packers will be playing Super Bowl XLV in just two days and the team, like most NFL teams, use resistance bands in their training. For the Packers, notably Donald Driver, Charles Woodson, linebackers AJ Hawk and Clay Matthews have each gained tremendous benefits to their game by using bands. It is interesting that the two “old” guys, Driver and Woodson are still playing at a high level and maybe in some measure the band training is contributing to their success.

NFL players will use resistance bands to develop their speed, flexibility, reaction time, explosiveness and the ability to quickly change direction.

Dave Schmitz of Resistance Band Training Systems, LLC can tell you more about the bands and how to use them for maximum athletic effect. There are other very good band products, but Dave’s a Wisconsin boy and and a staunch Packer fan. He gets the run here on Super Bowl weekend!
