Many things change as we age, including how we train. Does that mean we have to make concessions to age? Not necessarily. “Dinosaur” Brooks Kubik shows us how to get strong and stay strong, regardless of age.
One of my favorite business and life books is “Thick Face, Black Heart” by Chin-Ning Chu. Another new favorite is the just-published, “Gray Hair, Black Iron” by “Dinosaur Training” author, Brooks Kubik. Kubik addresses the training issues of the older lifter; those over 40. Until now, I haven’t seen anyone write an entire book on the topic, but here it is and it is very good, even if you are not an “older” lifter. (Hopefully, you will be one day)!
Having read “Dinosaur Training” and still referring back to it, I was anxious to get into GHBI. Brooks has a great pulse on training and it is reflected by his loyal “Dino” readers as evidenced by his blog comments.
GHBI covers some important topics and one that I went to immediately was a chapter on exercises older lifters should avoid and why. Am I doing some of those “bad” movements? You bet, but carefully.
His main theme for the older lifter is the reality of Recovery and Recuperation and subsequent chapters keep this in mind. You will find some Top Ten lists of best exercises for total body, total abbreviated workouts, basic strength, and circuit training. You will find plans that work best for you here.
Everything you need to get and stay strong, regardless of your age is in this book and I urge you to get a copy.
Kubik also writes of the big names in the iron game of yesteryear in “Legacy of Iron” and “Clouds of War”.
