Is your training random or structured? Charles Staley of staleytrainingsytems.com has an interesting post on the pros and cons of randomized (Crossfit-style) and structured, sport-specific type training and some ideas that you can use that fall between each.
While I employ some structure in my own training, I do tend to be a bit more randomized in my programming. I know what to do, but not necessarily when I want to do it. I do like to mix it up a bit and learn from a lot of people, like Staley, but when I see one of Crossfit’s bumper stickers “specialization is for insects”, I say, try and sell that to Michael Phelps!
Really, there is no point for me to specialize in my training and being totally random doesn’t appeal to me, Staley’s hybrid ideas make more sense to me.
As I write this, I am not sure exactly what my workout will be today, but I have some ideas! Maybe I’ll just toss the dice.
