Ordinarily, it is probably not a great idea to mix a cardio workout with a heavy lifting session especially when legs where involved in both.

My plan was to go to the gym and do a few rounds of the Crossfit warm-up which would give me an overall body boost that would be a good lead-in to a skate at the beach.

What started as a simple warm-up turned into a full-blown pair of five sets of front squat and shoulder press sessions.

That went well…

Front Squat, 5×5: 95/135/145/155/165
Shoulder Press, 2×5: 135/145/155/155/145

With that done, I headed off to the beach where cool ocean breezes were blowing and the sun was soon to set over the horizon. I started my skate at the Newport Beach City Hall and loosened up a bit skating to the Newport Beach pier. From there, I turned around and headed north along Seashore Drive and then over the river jetty to the beach strand, headed to to Huntington Beach pier. There were a lot of people out but not so many that if I wanted to turn on some speed I couldn’t. There wasn’t much in the way of speed, however,  but it was terrific to be out there on the Bonts. I covered 12 miles in 58 minutes.

As this is being written well after both sessions, I am fairly spent. Not totally gassed, but it was a great training day;  one of the really fun ones that we all look to have from time to time. Tomorrow is a rest day and I know I need it and will not change that on the fly like I did today.
