Years ago, on the Ed Sullivan Show and variety shows like it, every once in a while, they would feature an act where the performer would spin plates at the end of sticks. He would run around and run around some more trying to keep all the plates spinning so they wouldn’t fall off the stick. He was pretty good at it, but while you are spinning the plates, you really can’t do much of anything else. Crossfit is like that.

There are so many components that make up the WODs and they come from weightlifting, both Olympic-style and powerlifting, gymnastics, bodyweight and different versions of what is commonly called "cardio". Doing all these WODs gets you in great GPP condition, that is General Physical Preparedness which is vital if you are a soldier, law enforcement agent or a firefighter. It is also great if you are any every day guy trying to keep in functionally good condition.

Brent and I have talked about this before. There are so many things to master and so little time to get very good, if even a few. As you start to get good at something, invariably, something(s) get neglected.

Such is the case with me in a lot of areas. One such exercise I have fallen back on but recently have begun spending more time with is the squats-both back and front. I just have not been doing many of them and certainly not enough to improve. In fact, I had regressed and my form looked horrible. I am going to attempt to stay regular with powerlifting and Oly lifting, cleans at the least.

Tonight, I did 10 sets with 2 reps each in the back squat, with fairly good results.

135/155/185/225/225/225/245/185×4/185×4/185×5/. I need to stay lighter for a little while and go lower in the hole and pay attention to proper technique before going after breaking 300 lbs.

Another area where the plate has slowed down to the point of falling is running and metcon training. Tomorrow, I will do 5 rounds, 400 meter track laps followed by 50 squats. Sounds easy enough, but I really know better
