It seems a couple times a week, I don’t have as much time to train as I would like, and I usually don’t need much. Typically, my course of action will be to do a short, but intense metcon session as I learned from doing Crossfit and now that I have kettlebells, I can add that to the mix. There really are a lot of things you can do if you are crunched by the clock.
For the time you don’t have much of it and you want to lift, Jim Schmitz has a good suggestion. Jim was the US Olympic Weightlifting coach in 1980, 1988 and 1992. Here is what he has to say about the best lifts to do when time is of the essence.
If You Only Had Time for One Lift
“I know everyone probably has his favorite lift or several favorites, and not only could you probably not choose just one lift, but also you would probably think it impossible to narrow down your workout to just one lift. Let’s say for some reason you only have time for one lift. Which should it be? My recommendation would be power clean and military press/push press/power jerk.”

(As it turned out, I squandered my workout time today and never got one in. this was meant to be a light week anyway).
