Cardio is one of those things you just have to add in to achieve the fitness levels and fat loss you want. No getting around it. But you don’t have to waste your time using an elliptical trainer either. Since there are many means to achieve that all-important cardio fitness, let’s just cut through the crap and find one workout that gets the job done better than anything I’ve ever used. Meet the Prowler.

Scott Brengel brought in a couple of these beasts and yes, they are beasts. They sat in the gym new and unused for almost two weeks. I looked at them often but never took one outside until one recent workout after I finished a bench, squat and deadlift session at 80-90% and then completely cooled down, comfortable and ready for dinner. Mike Covert took one out to the parking lot and I was content to open the door and gate for him but soon was enticed to try it for myself. I might have been fine to simply push it out for a couple of laps but kept on going for 6 laps, pushing it from all the positions. Any thought of dinner was now replaced with whether I could get my heart rate and respiration back to normal levels. I had a queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach and it was a good thing I hadn’t had anything in my belly for several hours. The next day was nothing less than a workout hangover, plain and simple.
You could make a workout out of just Prowler pushes and I did almost that a couple days later, doing 6 more laps, including 90# of additional weight after doing a barbell snatch session prior. The end result was similar, though not quite as intense.
You wanna a cardio workout, I’ll give you a cardio workout. You may cough out a lung though!
If you know a good welder you could have him make one of these for yourself or you could just go buy one of two models and Elite Fitness.
